In the Eastern Cape of South Africa, a solitary factory worker named Xolani takes a break from his daily routine to help with a yearly Xhosa initiation ceremony, marking boys’ transition to manhood through circumcision. This sacred tradition unfolds in a secluded mountain camp exclusively for men, where the young initiates, covered in white ochre, recover and embrace their culture’s ideals of masculinity.
