The Shadow

In “The Shadow (2024),” Juhan Liiv, a poet turned unlikely detective, tackles brutal murder mysteries in the tumultuous setting of the 1890s Estonian frontier, during the decline of the Russian Empire. His investigations lead him through the gritty homes of local Estonian peasants, into the opulent castles of German aristocrats allied with the Czar, and even into the mystical depths of ancient forests where witchcraft lingers. Juhan battles the forces of crime and his inner turmoil, seen as mad by society but proving to be the voice of justice and sanity in a chaotic world.
