The Robbers

It’s Boxing Day, and Karen is already making New Year’s resolutions, mainly imposing them on others. Meanwhile, the family encounters a selective burglary, prompting Sue to exaggerate the details on the insurance claim. Sue and Jake head to the retirement home to pick up Grandad, only to discover he has wandered off to the pub once again with his Scottish friend, Mac. Despite their differences, Sue invites Mac over for dinner, leading to some humorous misunderstandings when Karen struggles with his thick accent. Sue’s divorced friend Jane also joins them for the holiday, and though the children don’t quite grasp the value of her gift—a goat donated to Oxfam—Pete sympathizes with her and finds comfort in the idea that the Brockmans have shared Christmas with lonely outsiders. This festive mood shifts a bit when a W.P.C. arrives with yet another pensioner who has seemingly wandered off.
