Mad Dogs is a British television series blending dark comedy with psychological thrills, crafted by Cris Cole and first broadcast on Sky1 on February 10th, 2011. This show, produced by Left Bank Pictures in collaboration with Palma Pictures, features John Simm, Marc Warren, Max Beesley, and Philip Glenister as lifelong friends who gather at a villa in Majorca to mark the early retirement of their buddy Alvo. Unexpectedly, after Alvo’s death, these friends find themselves entangled in a dangerous web of criminal enterprises and corrupt law enforcement.

Originally envisioned as a story about a rock band, the series transitioned to its current form due to the oversaturation of band narratives. After catching the interest of terrestrial networks, British Sky Broadcasting commissioned the series. Filming occurred across various Majorca locations in May 2010, took a budget of approximately four million euros, and was completed in 44 days. Primary themes explore friendship and the inevitable passage of time; Glenister explains it’s about aging and confronting mortality. Noted photographer David LaChapelle created three captivating 30-second promos for Mad Dogs. Its premiere attracted 1.61 million viewers, making it the 17th most-watched Sky1 program, while critics praised its resemblance to iconic British gangster films like Sexy Beast.
