Judge Judy
Overview
Judge Judy is a popular American reality court series led by retired Manhattan Family Court Judge Judith Sheindlin. In this program, Sheindlin resolves actual small claims disputes in a constructed courtroom environment. Participants must agree to arbitration under her guidance, making the show’s proceedings legally binding. Distributed by CBS Television Distribution, the series remains in first-run syndication.
Debuting on September 16, 1996, Judge Judy is widely credited with rejuvenating the court show genre, following only The People’s Court and Jones and Jury in the arbitration-based reality format. Known for her “tough” adjudication style, Sheindlin sparked many imitations in the judicial TV sphere. Unlike other shows like The People’s Court and Divorce Court, which have evolved through many versions and hosts, Judge Judy stands out for Sheindlin’s record-setting tenure as a television judge.
Although Judge Judy was nominated for Daytime Emmy Awards 14 consecutive years without winning, it finally received the award for Outstanding Legal/Courtroom Program on its 15th nomination on June 14, 2013. This achievement marked it as the first long-standing, highly-rated court show to clinch an Emmy. Judge Judy online. Watch Judge Judy (1996) streaming for free right here on Soap2day and 123Movies.
