I Saw the Sun

Set in a small village in southeastern Turkey, the Altun family endures the dire consequences of a 25-year conflict that turns their existence into a daily nightmare. With the war intensifying, the family has no choice but to relocate westward to Istanbul. Haydar and Isa Altun choose to remain in Turkey with their young children, while Davut Altun takes his family north to Norway with the aid of smugglers. Although they eventually find jobs in a supermarket, the harsh realities of life as refugees are unrelenting. Meanwhile, back in Istanbul, Haydar takes care of the family as his wife undergoes surgery due to pregnancy issues. Their son befriends a group of transvestites, allowing him to explore facets of his identity he never understood before.
