Dear Elza!

In late 1942, on the Eastern front in Ukraine, Private Lombos, portrayed by Gábor Makray, serves his homeland with unwavering loyalty. His greatest wish is to return to his young wife, but a bureaucratic error causes him to miss his train home. Just when he thinks his situation can’t deteriorate further, true despair takes hold. As a multilingual, educated young teacher, he feels duty-bound to continue the fight and finds himself back in battle. Wounded during an assault, he spends a harrowing night behind enemy lines, seeking refuge in a pit. It is there that he encounters a cryptic elderly man, played by Tamás Varga, whose words profoundly affect Lombos’s steadfast belief in his military duties and national allegiance. By dawn, Russian forces discover them and take Lombos into custody, entangling him with the “tramplers.” Unexpectedly, the old man also reappears among the adversaries, offering guidance from the shadows to ensure the soldier’s survival.
