Zatoichi Meets Yojimbo

With a bounty on his head, the wandering swordsman Ichi seeks refuge in a familiar village. However, the village he once knew is now under the oppressive control of Boss Masagoro, the son of a merchant suspected of embezzling gold from the shogunate. Masagoro has enlisted Yojimbo, a hard-drinking enforcer with a secret agenda – he’s actually a shogunate spy searching for the stolen gold and harbors feelings for Umeno, the merchant’s reluctant mistress. Ichi takes up a position as the merchant’s masseur and uses his employer’s resources to purchase Umeno’s freedom. This act humiliates Yojimbo and causes him to retreat from an alliance with Ichi, leading to conflict between the merchant, his son, and their factions.
