The Fits

In “The Fits (2016),” we follow the story of Toni, a young tomboy and boxer, who joins an after-school drill team in Cincinnati’s West End community. Enthusiastic about her new venture, she quickly learns the routines, masters drill exercises, and even pierces her ears to feel like one of the team. As she experiences the joy of newfound friendships and dance, a strange phenomenon grips the team: a mysterious outbreak causes the girls to faint, swoon, and shake in unexplainable fits. Though no one can pinpoint the cause, these fits evolve into a unique rite of passage, uniting the girls through shared trials. Toni grapples with the balance between maintaining control and the longing for acceptance, ultimately determining how far she’s willing to go to achieve her new ideals.
