This is the third television adaptation of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s “Cinderella,” a TV musical featuring music by Richard Rodgers with book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II. The 1997 version was reimagined by Robert L. Freedman, directed by Robert Iscove, and choreographed by Rob Marshall. Produced by Whitney Houston and Debra Martin Chase for Walt Disney Television, it premiered on November 2, 1997, capturing an audience of sixty million viewers. Additional songs enhanced the musical experience, including “Falling in Love with Love” from The Boys from Syracuse, delivered by the Stepmother; “The Sweetest Sounds” from the show No Strings, performed by Cinderella and the Prince; and “There’s Music in You,” originally composed for the 1953 film Main Street to Broadway, sung as the final piece by the Fairy Godmother.
