In the town of Stip, located in Macedonia, a yearly tradition unfolds every January as the local priest hurls a wooden cross into the river, prompting a swarm of men to plunge in after it. The promise of luck and prosperity awaits the one who retrieves the cross. On impulse, Petrunya leaps in this year and secures the cross ahead of the others.
