VE Day: Forever in their Debt

On May 8th, 2020, the world celebrates the 75th anniversary of the official conclusion of World War II in Europe. “V-E Day – Forever in their Debt” captures the personal stories of individuals who lived through the war’s end, vividly bringing their experiences to life. The program presents a diverse collection of interviews, featuring everything from memories of children at street parties to tales of servicemen enjoying a free drink and POWs longing for the simple pleasure of a hot bath after prolonged imprisonment. The documentary is enriched with historical footage, including a rare color film of the joyous celebrations in London and clips of a stern Montgomery accepting the surrender of German forces in northern Germany on May 4.
