The Westerner

In “The Westerner” (1940), wanderer Cole Harden finds himself in hot water after being accused of horse theft and nearly faces the noose under the judgment of the self-styled Judge Roy Bean. Harden cleverly avoids this fate by convincing Bean that he is an acquaintance of Lillie Langtry, a stage performer whom the judge idolizes from afar. The plot thickens as Harden stands up against Bean, championing the cause of a group of homesteaders whom Bean wants to expel.
