Courage the Cowardly Dog is a 1999 animated TV series blending comedy, horror, science fantasy, and drama. Created by John R. Dilworth for Cartoon Network, it follows Courage, a pink/purple dog with human-like traits who lives with Muriel and Eustace Bagge, an elderly couple, in “the Middle of Nowhere.” The trio often finds themselves in peculiar and supernatural situations, facing various villains with surreal and unsettling humor. Originally stemming from a short produced by Hanna-Barbera’s Fred Seibert and featured on “What a Cartoon!” under the title “The Chicken from Outer Space,” this segment received an Academy Award nomination in 1996, resulting in Cartoon Network greenlighting the series.
