This Is Sanlitun

British underdog Gary has landed in Beijing’s trendy Sanlitun area, claiming plans of launching a new venture. However, his move is motivated by more personal reasons, such as following his ex-wife and young son. Gary quickly discovers that finding success in China is anything but straightforward. Despite lacking self-awareness and understanding of Chinese culture, he persists in his quest for money, armed only with self-confidence. Along the way, he meets Frank, a wealthy Australian who takes it upon himself to educate Gary in Eastern customs. Frank’s teaching style mostly involves chastising Gary for not being as “Chinese” as him, despite Gary’s Western background.
