Screaming in High Heels: The Rise & Fall of the Scream Queen Era
Trailer
Overview
In the vibrant 1980s Los Angeles scene, three young women unintentionally transitioned from being models to iconic B-movie actresses during the explosion of direct-to-video horror films. Dubbed “The Terrifying Trio,” Linnea Quigley (known for The Return of the Living Dead), Brinke Stevens (famous for The Slumber Party Massacre), and Michelle Bauer (star of The Tomb), became cult favorites, starring in more than ten films annually. These films often featured them battling rubber-suited monsters, overly eager teenage boys, and notorious horror set pieces like deadly showers. They were pivotal in campy classics such as Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-a-Rama (1988) and Nightmare Sisters (1987). Their fame took them around the globe, even earning them a meeting with President Reagan, and allowed them to create niche empires featuring trading cards, comic books, and model kits. However, their success story eventually saw its sad decline. Screaming in High Heels: The Rise & Fall of the Scream Queen Era documents this fascinating journey.
