The 2007 documentary “The Call of the Wild,” directed by independent filmmaker Ron Lamothe, chronicles the remarkable journey of Christopher McCandless, who gained fame as the inspiration for the book and film “Into the Wild.” McCandless, who called himself an “aesthetic voyager whose home is the road,” embarked on a two-year adventure across America, traveling from Atlanta to Arizona, navigating through Mexico, exploring California’s Salton Sea, wandering the streets of Las Vegas, and passing through Carthage, South Dakota, among countless other places. In the spring of 1992, the 24-year-old adventurer journeyed to Alaska, where he spent 113 days living in the wilderness north of Mt. McKinley until he tragically succumbed to starvation.
