Laura Chant, a 16-year-old, resides with her mother and her little brother Jacko in a struggling neighborhood on the outskirts of a half-destroyed Christchurch, New Zealand. When an ageless spirit targets Jacko and begins to sap his life essence to rejuvenate itself, Laura is thrust into a mystical confrontation.
